Hillary NOW in Asheville,NC

The Hillary Now organizational meeting in Asheville went great! When I let Bob Kunst know I was back in this area and mentioned Bele Chere.(A downtown festivalin Asheville NC that gets tri-state coverage with over 350,000people to attend). We at first wanted to do a booth at the festival. It was way to late and there was over 300 on the waiting list! We went with what we had and Bob (Hillary NOW) decided to come into this area anyway! We got together the first organizational meeting in this area for Hillary '08. We had a small turn out but literarily had only a couple of days to announce this event. The word must have got out some as we did have a few protesters. What astonished me the most has been the reaction to our Hillary effort in this area afterwards. After our meeting and people began to return Home from work etc.I personally have had dozens of people approach me for more information about Hillary Now and about a possible Hillary run for the presidency in 2008! I have been absent from this,my Hometown area for 2 1/2 years. When I left, this area was an extremely conservative area. That combined with the events at that time if you mentioned Hillary you would get laughed at.Now as people learn more about Hillary and her vision for America with the great Senate record that she has and the poor record of this administration and the Republican congress I have never seen such interest and hope that she will run in 2008!I live further up in the Mountains of Western North Carolina. An area that is even more conservative. When people see my HillaryNow,Hillary 2008 bumper stickers they come up to me.I think ohh no,here it comes.Attacks etc. What I have got in reality has been "where did you get that","I hope she runs" This morning I had an elderly lady come up to me at a gas station and say "America Needs Her" She couldn't have said it better! It matters not if you are a Republican,A Democrat,independent.Liberal,Conservative.What matters is the wrong direction this country has taken. The support I have seen in this area this weekend for Hillary 08 has been overwhelming! After the organizational meeting I had to return 'back to the hills' and finish up with my unpacking and my return Home to the mountains that I love. What better Homecoming could one have ask for! Hillary,I hope you read this as if (it seems apparent you do)have this kind of underlying support here who can imagine the untouched support that hasn't been tapped here and all over the country!I understand Bob(HillaryNow) has had great success during the Bele Chere festival over the week-end.Let him tell you about that.It has been wonderful meeting Bob Kunst and working with HillaryNow.Com If I can help further in this area let me know!

HillaryNow Coming to Asheville,NC !!!

Dear Folks:

Hillarynow.com is coming to Asheville to organize a local effort, as part of our national movement to elect Hillary Clinton as the lst Woman President in U.S. history in 2008.

We have rented space on Thurs., July 27, 2006, from 6P.M. to 8 P.M. at O. Henry's, 237 Haywood St., downtown Asheville, N.C., in the La Rue's Room.

We only have two hours and must accomplish much including our visibility at Bel-Chere.
Contact locally is Randy Howington,(Rcalypso) 828-369-8645

My contact: Bob Kunst, Pres., Hillarynow.com, 305-864-5110

For background, please go to our web site http://www.hillarynow.com/ and a photo of Hillary and myself taken in Wash., D.C. at the Mayfair Hotel, on June 23, 2006, at the New Democratic Net Conference.

From Aug. 2003 through July 2006, we've been to 130 cities, done 800 news interviews, and 4 t.v. ads, seen millions in various events, including 25 in the Deep South, and we are convinced that Hillary Clinton is the strongest Democrat who can and will win in 2008.

As a result of our efforts, Hillary has also raised $27millions, is 25 points ahead of any opposition for a landslide re-election in N.Y., and we are 3 years ahead on whether America will elect a woman president, who is strong like Hillary, and we are succeeding on that level as well.

Hillary brings excitement back to politics, so many have given up on, and that means new votes and our victory. She also forces the Democrats to go on the offense to defend this nation, and offer answers to the great dangers America faces.

Please attend this meeting, and also let your networks know of this unique effort. We'll have our tee-shirts, buttons, stickers etc. there for ongoing visibility and 'movement.'

I look foward to meeting with you and organizing. "It's All About U.S." and we urge you to "Seek this Abundance" being offered.

Yours Faithfully,
Bob Kunst

Stem Cell Research

Unfortunately, last night the Republican leadership in the House of Representatives pushed a very quick vote on the override. Their strategy was to hold a vote before the public -- which has consistently supported stem cell research by huge margins -- could weigh in. While a large majority voted to overturn President Bush's veto in a 235 to 193 vote, they fell short of the two-thirds majority required.
So President Bush's veto will stand, keeping huge obstacles in the way of future stem cell research.
Make no mistake: this fight is far from over. Hillary, who co-sponsored the bill passed by Congress, will continue to speak out on this issue and make it a top priority. We must keep fighting for additional funding for stem cell research and eliminate the arbitrary restrictions President Bush has put on the scientists who are pursuing tomorrow's cures.
We must also intensify our efforts to elect as many Democrats as we can to the House and Senate this November. Across the country, Democratic candidates are speaking out about this issue, making it a top priority in the 2006 elections. When we have Democratic majorities in the House and Senate, you can bet we'll pass this legislation again.
We've updated our online action. You can still show your support for this vital research that holds so much potential for so many families. I urge you to sign on in support of stem cell research and to tell your friends and family to join you.

Tell Congress: NO MORE !

http://www.hillaryclinton.com/action/minimumwage/?sc=e.20060712

It's a matter of simple fairness. Since 1997, members of Congress have refused to give minimum wage workers a raise - not one penny - while voting to give themselves more than $30,000 in raises.
Here's the bottom line: The minimum wage is just $5.15 an hour. That means that someone working a full-time job, 40 hours a week, 52 weeks a year, earns just $10,712 a year. That's more than $5,000 below the poverty line for a family of three. And as the cost of living goes up, that $5.15 is worth less and less every day.
It's time to tell Congress "No more." Hillary has introduced a bill that would make sure Congress doesn't get another raise in their own pay until those making the minimum wage get a raise too. Stand with her by supporting her bill:
http://www.hillaryclinton.com/action/minimumwage/
Why does this Republican Congress refuse to take action? We've seen where their priorities are: big, new tax breaks to the very wealthiest Americans. When it comes to helping working families, the Republican Congress can't be bothered.
Maybe this way, they'll finally take notice. Let's tell the Republican Congress that they're not getting another raise until America gets a raise. Tell Hillary you're standing with her.
http://www.hillaryclinton.com/action/minimumwage/
There are millions of people in this country who are working hard but can't make enough to get by. With minimum wage earners making the same money they did nine years ago, wages across the board have stayed stagnant. With health care costs and housing and energy prices on the rise, middle class families are working harder than ever and still can't get ahead.
Let's get the Republicans in Congress moving. Let Hillary know you support her bill that ties all future Congressional raises to raises in the minimum wage.
Thank you for taking action.
Sincerely,
Ann F. Lewis

P.S. We can win this fight if Congress knows that people are watching. Please forward this message to your friends and tell them to get involved.

President Hillary Clinton

By James Carville and Mark J. PennSunday, July 2, 2006 (Washington Post)

"Hillary Clinton really is one of the weakest . . . nominees with whom the Democrats could be saddled." "Democrats are worried sick about her chances"
"Just give someone else a chance, so we in the Democratic Party can elect a Democrat."
"She cannot possibly, possibly win."Yada, yada, yada. We've heard all this "Hillary can't win stuff" before. In fact, the quotes above aren't from recent weeks but from six years ago, when many pundits -- and Democrats -- said there was no way that Hillary could get elected to the Senate. She won by 12 percentage points. We don't know if Hillary is going to run for president, but as advisers who have worked on the only two successful Democratic presidential campaigns in the past couple of decades, we know that if she does run, she can win that race, too. Why? First, because strength matters. Our problems as a party are less ideological than anatomical: Our candidates have been made to look like they have no backbone. But the latest Post-ABC News poll shows that 68 percent of Americans describe Hillary Clinton as a strong leader. That comes after years of her being in the national crossfire. People know that Hillary has strong convictions, even if they don't always agree with her. They also know that she's tough enough to handle the viciousness of a national campaign and the challenges of the presidency itself.
One thing we know about Clinton campaigns: Nobody gets Swift Boated. The woman who gave the War Room its name knows how tough politics at the presidential level can be. Adversaries spent $60 million against her in 2000, and she endured press scrutiny that would have wilted most candidates. She gave as good as she got, and she triumphed. For those who think that the politics of personal destruction might be rekindled against Hillary or her husband, we can only remind people how consistently that approach has backfired in the past. Bill Clinton would certainly be a huge asset if Hillary decided to run.In fact, Hillary is the only nationally known Democrat (other than her husband) who has weathered the Republican assaults and emerged with a favorable rating above 50 percent (54 percent positive in the latest Post-ABC poll).Yes, she has a 42 percent negative rating, as do other nationally known Democrats. All the nationally un known Democrats would likely wind up with high negative ratings, too, once they'd been through the Republican attack machine. The difference with Hillary is the intensity of her support.Pundits and fundraisers and activists may be unsure of whether Hillary can get elected president, but Democratic voters, particularly Democratic women and even independent women, are thrilled with the idea.
The X factor for 2008 -- and we do mean X -- is the power of women in the electorate. Fifty-four percent of voters are female. George Bush increased his vote with only two groups between 2000 and 2004: women and Hispanics. Bush got 49 percent of white female voters in 2000 and 55 percent in 2004. Of his 3.5-percentage-point margin over John Kerry, Bush's increase with women accounted for 2.5 percentage points. The rest came from a nine-point increase among Hispanic voters: from 35 percent in 2000 to 44 percent in 2004. We believe that Hillary is uniquely capable of getting those swing voters back to the Democratic column.
Hillary's candidacy has the potential to reshape the electoral map for Democrats. Others argue they can add to John Kerry's 20 states and 252 electoral votes by adding Southern states, or Western or Midwestern, depending on their background. Hillary has the potential to mobilize people in every region of the country.
Certainly she could win the states John Kerry did. But with the pathbreaking possibility of this country's first female president, we could see an explosion of women voting -- and voting Democratic. States that were close in the past, from Arkansas to Colorado to Florida to Ohio, could well move to the Democratic column. It takes only one more state to win.
Finally, for those who believe that Hillary's electoral chances are tied to ideology, not leadership qualities, we believe that she is squarely in the mainstream of America. Some people say she is too liberal, some that she is too conservative. We think her 35 years of advocacy for children and families and her tenacious work in the Senate to help ensure our security after Sept. 11 and to help middle-class families will serve her well. We think she represents the kind of change the country is yearning for: a smart, strong leader. She would take the country in a fundamentally different direction: closing deficits, not widening them; expanding health care coverage, not shrinking it. Fighting terrorism without isolating us from the rest of the world. We don't know whether Hillary will run. But we do know that if she runs, she can win.

James Carville, a Democratic political consultant and commentator, was chief strategist in Bill Clinton's 1992 presidential campaign. Mark J. Penn was a key strategist in Clinton's 1996 bid for re-election and in Hillary Clinton's 2000 Senate campaign.
